Canoe Adventure

Next Canoe Adventure: Check back soon for 2018 updates.

Our main on-water event of the year, Canoe Adventure, offers travelers the chance to paddle through the urban areas of Akron, along the Towpath Trail, and across Summit Lake, the "high point" of the Ohio & Erie Canal. The trip, held each July, includes trolley shuttles to the beginning of the trip, a 6-mile guided tour along the canal, and a picnic lunch back at Summit Lake.

Please check back soon for more information regarding our next Canoe Adventure. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for this event, please contact George Ebey.

Review: 2017 Canoe Adventure

2017 Canoe Adventure participants.

More than 80 participants joined the Ohio & Erie Canalway on Saturday, July 8, 2017, for the annual canoe trip along the Ohio & Erie Canal. Cloud coverage provided the perfect weather for paddling from Nesmith Lake to Summit Lake in south Akron. Trip included historical information about the Canalway and concluded with a picnic lunch at the Reach Opportunity Center at Summit Lake. Thank you to our participants, volunteer kayak guides, and sponsors for making this a great experience along the Canal!
