6 p.m. Gathering, 7 p.m. Dinner with live auction to follow
On Friday, May 19, 2017, the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition will be hosting the Canal Boat Captains Ball at the Akron Fairlawn Hilton. The Captain's Ball is a premier fundraiser that benefits the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition and our efforts to build the Towpath Trail through northeast Ohio, as well as thank members of the community for their support of the Towpath Trail. This year, we are honoring Michael Kolk of Cohen & Company as Honorary Canal Boat Captain.
Doors will open at 6:00pm. A social hour will be followed by dinner at 7 p.m., and a silent and live auction. Proceeds from this event benefit the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition and the continued development of the Towpath Trail and Connector Trails.
If you are interested in learning more about the event or would like to purchase a seat, contact Cari Danko at (330) 374-5657 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

People don’t usually put the words “accountant” and “creative” in the same sentence. Mike, however, is not a typical accountant. He blends more than 30 tax seasons of knowledge with a strategic mind to develop specific, unique and compliant tax solutions for private companies and their owners.
Mike has held many positions both within Cohen & Company and the community. He serves on The University of Akron Advancement Council, Case Western Reserve University Accounting Department Advisory Board, Greater Akron Chamber Board, and is a former director of the Ohio Society of CPAs. Other prior involvement includes serving as a board member and/or officer of Leadership Akron, Akron Tax and Estate Planning Council, Akron General Hospital, Downtown Akron Partnership, Weaver Industries and various other community organizations. Mike is a member of the 1998 class of Leadership Akron, the 1996 class of Leadership Ohio and has been honored with several awards, including Accounting Professional of the Year by the University of Akron, Alumnus of the Year by Case Western Reserve's Accountancy Department and a member of the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame at West Geauga High School. He is a certified public accountant and a licensed attorney in Ohio. He received his masters of science degree from the University of Cincinnati, his law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University, and his bachelors of science degree from Case Western Reserve University where he also played basketball.
One of Mike’s great passions is cycling, riding thousands of miles annually, especially on the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath and the Great Allegheny Passage. Mike is also a member of the "Towpath Twelve", the group of fund raising cyclists which rode the original Towpath Century ride in 2010. Mike is one of very few that can say he has ridden in this ride every year since inception. Mike and his wife Joan reside in Copley with Mike's collection of thousands of license plates, and are the proud parents of two adult children, Jim and Michelle.
