The Cleveland Clinic Akron General Towpath 50 is a bicycling fundraising event, organized by the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, to raise funds for the continued development, maintenance and activation of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area, Towpath Trail and connector trails. Individuals and families will ride 50 miles on the Towpath Trail, raising a minimum of $50 in pledges, with premiums for cyclists raising $100 and $300 or more. The bicycle ride includes SAG-support, healthy water stops, and an after party with food, drinks and live entertainment. The ride starts and ends in Lock 3; with a turnaround at Crystal Springs Trailhead.
In the inaugural Towpath 50, more than 110 cyclists rode from Akron to Massillon and back, then celebrated in Lock 3 Park with live music from RoxxyMoron, food, and games. The riders raised more than $20,000 for the continued development of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, connector trails, and public spaces!
