Education
The Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition continues to provide educational and interpretive programs about the National Heritage Canalway to both children and adults.

Some of the activities include:

· Development of the "Towpath Companion, a Traveler's Guide to the Towpath Trail," sponsored by the Ohio & Erie Canal Association, National City Bank, First Energy Foundation and the Ohio Department of Development..

· Coordinate, "Canal Adventure : Experiencing the Silver Ribbon," a hiking, bicycling and canoeing tour of the Ohio & Erie National Heritage Canalway from Cleveland to New Philadelphia. As the hikers traveled from New Philadelphia, community leaders and citizens joined them to learn and experience first hand the natural resources along the Ohio & Erie National Heritage Canalway.

Canal Adventure 2000

· Coordinate a Towpath Trail event, entitled "Towpath Trek". Sponsored by The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, hikers and bicyclists can explore newly developed sections of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Participants receive a collectors pin with the Towpath Trek logo.

· Publish and distribute Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition's newsletter, The Silver Ribbon.

· Sponsord the "Captain Nye's Fishing Derby" and "Cargill Bluegill Fishing Derby", both "hands-on" educational events for inner-city school age children to experience fishing in the historic Ohio & Erie Canal while learning about the history of the Ohio & Erie Canal, and the heritage of their community.
