Explore the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area in all of its fall glory when you participate in the 2018 Goodyear Towpath Trek! Individuals and families are invited to walk or bicycle four sections of the Towpath Trail and earn a dated, commemorative pin to celebrate your success. To receive your pin, you must pay a $3 fee per hiker.
Hike or bike the rural landscape of the Towpath Trail as it winds through the nature-filled section of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Begin your trek at Hunt Farm Trailhead (2054 Bolanz Road) and head south to the Ira Trailhead. Hike or bike on Saturday or Sunday through October 28th to enjoy Szalay’s outdoor eatery just west of the Hunt House (10:30AM-7PM).
Explore the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in downtown Akron as you hike or bike from Summit Lake (390 West Crosier Street) to the Richard Howe House (47 West Exchange Street). As you travel along the Towpath Trail, admire the photography exhibits, murals, and underpass lighting along the way. Enjoy Summit Lake Farmers’ Market every Tuesday through October 2nd (4-7PM).
Discover the beauty of the Tuscarawas River Valley as you hike or bike along the Tuscarawas River and the remains of the Ohio & Erie Canal. You can travel north from the Canal Lands Trailhead (8645 Dover-Zoar Road) to Fort Laurens in Bolivar (3 miles), south to State Route 800 (3 miles), or into Zoar over the Old Zoar Bridge along the Zoar Wetland Trail (less than 1 mile).
Cool off under the tree canopy along the Tuscarawas River as you head north from Ernie’s Bicycle Shop (135 Lake Avenue Northwest) to Forty Corners Trailhead (along Erie Avenue Northwest). Forty Corners Trailhead also serves the Old Muskingum Trail, which parallels the Towpath Trail north from Forty Corners Road Bridge all the way to Canal Fulton.
