What is the FirstMerit Towpath Century Ride? The FirstMerit Towpath Trail Century Ride is a fully-supported 101 mile ride on the historic Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail that celebrates this regional trail and promotes the development of connector trails for the regional trail system.
Riders can chose from a 1-day or 2-day ride and can participate as individuals or teams on well-maintained bicycle trails and some on-road sections. The FirstMerit Towpath Century Ride starts on the banks of the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland, and travels through the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park, downtown Akron, and historic canal towns of Canal Fulton and Bolivar, Ohio. Riders who raise $1,000 by March 31, 2013 are eligible for a custom jersey. Riders who join as a team need to raise $750 by March 31 to be eligible for a jersey.
Our goal for the 2013 FirstMerit Towpath Trail Century Ride is 101 bicycle riders and raising at least $75,000 for the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and regional connector. In order to guarantee your participation, register today!!
“The FirstMerit Towpath Century Ride® is Northeast Ohio cycling’s best kept secret and offers the challenge of a 101-mile cycling event coupled with outstanding rider fellowship and a unsurpassed vista of ever-changing beauty.”
-Jeff Kucharski and Tom Anderson, FirstMerit
“The Century Ride has provided a terrific opportunity for me to get a first-hand appreciation for our region’s history as well as the natural beauty of the Towpath trail area. The ride is far more of a social event, with a great mix of interesting people, such that the miles go by quickly as you meet other riders. It’s hard to imagine a fundraiser that is more enjoyable.”
-Mike Kolk, Cohen and Company
“It was my first attempt at 101-miles and what a thrill. Many thanks to the staff and volunteers for an enjoyable experience. I will be back.”
-Bob Varley, Dominion
In 2012 a group of 47 riders came together to ride the entirety of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in Northeast Ohio.
